Dr. Mohammad Qandeel, medical consultant at Nasser Hospital in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis, describes how the hospital is facing an imminent crisis as it is running low nonfuel and water, while treating patients with severe injuries. More than 2,760 Palestinians have been killed and 9,600 injured since Israel began launching air strikes on Gaza on October 7th, following a large-scale attack by Palestinian fighters on Israeli towns.
Dr. Mohammad Qandeel: Since the last nine days we are facing a catastrophic situation. We are receiving the patients in our hospital, which has very limited beds. The type of wounds, the type of injury is very devastating. We see patients with massive destruction in their bodies either in the internal organs or the external organs. All the cases are very complex. The hospital is dependent on a fuel-based generator. Some parts of the hospital have no water now. If the fuel is finished, a disaster will happen in the hospital. This is a call for the human community, for the international organization. We are in a human-made disaster. We need the border to be open so we can evacuate some patients. We need medical supplies. We need fuel for the hospital, so we can continue our service to the patients.
